ST. FRANCIS DESALES HIGH SCHOOL
INCOMING FRESHMEN
ADMISSIONS TIME LINE AND PROCEDURES

1. Please attend one of the open houses held in late October and late January each school year. Classroom demonstrations, curriculum offerings, tours and the opportunity to talk with teachers, administration and students will be available.

2. Please contact Mr. Chris Joseph, Director of Admissions, at 267-7808 if you need an admissions packet or general information about the application process.

3. Turn in the application and application fee to St. Francis DeSales admissions office. All applications will be reviewed based on availability of space.

4. Call Mr. Joseph to schedule your son or daughter’s half-day visit of the high school (non-feeder applicants only). These 5 hour visits, which last from 7:45am-12:45 pm, are generally scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The student will shadow a DeSales student to his/her classes and to lunch to help get a realistic feeling of daily school life.

5. When you come to the school for your visit, please bring a copy of your most recent grade card for review if you have not sent one with your application.

6. Feeder school applicants will have scheduling materials distributed and explained by Mr. Jones, Mrs. Messerschmitt and our guidance staff in February at their respective grade school.

7. Non-feeder applicants must attend a mandatory scheduling meeting after receiving their letter of acceptance. Dates and times will be included in the letter of acceptance.

8. You will receive a very important summer mailing which will include all information concerning orientation dates and other general school information. Please pay close attention to all information included in the packet. Tuition information will be sent in the spring, explaining all options for tuition payment.

TRANSFER STUDENTS
ADMISSIONS TIME LINE AND PROCEDURES


1. Turn in application and application fee to St. Francis DeSales Admissions office no later
than May 12, 2008. All applications will be reviewed based on availability of space.

2. Included with the application should be the following:
     • Copy of all grades and courses taken in high school (grade cards or transcripts accepted)
     • 1 page essay on the topic- “ Why do I want to attend St. Francis DeSales high school?”

3. Call Mr. Chris Joseph at 267-7808, ext. 116 to schedule your son or daughter’s half-day visit of the high school. These 5 hour visits, which last from 7:45am-12:45pm, are generally scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The student will shadow a DeSales student of comparative grade level to his/her classes and to lunch to help get a realistic feeling of daily school life.

4. At the conclusion of the visit, the student and parents will have a brief interview with one of the administrators.

5. Transfer students and their parents will be notified about transfer decisions by May 26, 2008.

TRANSFER STUDENT PRIORITIES FOR ACCEPTANCE:

SENIORS: Seniors are accepted to St. Francis DeSales only in the following circumstances:
     • The family moves into the geographical area of St. Francis DeSales from out of town and the student has previously attended a Catholic school.
     • The applicant is a “Legacy”- they have parents or siblings who have graduated from DeSales or are current students at the school.

GRADES 10 AND 11: Sophomores and Juniors are accepted to St. Francis DeSales only in
the following circumstances:
     • Catholic families who are active members of a parish.
     • The applicant is a “Legacy”- see above.
     • Families whose students are transferring from other private or public schools.

Perspective students must meet the required academic and behavioral standards established by St. Francis DeSales High School.

All students interested in participating in athletics must abide with transfer rules set in place by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
