Buckeye Boys State

This is a 9 day "hands-on" experience in the operation of the democratic form of government, the organization of political parties, and the relationship of one to the other in shaping Ohio Government. State offices of Boys' State function just as the real Ohio office do. Young men learn about staffing, budgets, legislation, inter-agency cooperation and other topics served by state government. 
  • Eligibility
    • Completion of 11th grade and at least one semester left before graduation 
    • Candidates possess leadership, scholastic achievement 
    • Candidates possess good citizenship, and willingness to participate 
    • Candidates are required to attend the entire Boys' State program 
    • Candidates must believe in U.S. Citizenship, and the ideals of God and Country 
    • Candidates must be recommended by the high school principal 
The local American Legion Post pays fee. 

 

Buckeye Girls State


This program is designed to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship, and to give them an opportunity to learn the problems of government with a special emphasis upon the contribution women can make to their city, county, state and nation. 
 
  • Eligibility 
      • Completion of 11th grade and at least one semester left before graduation 
      • Candidates possess leadership, scholastic achievement 
      • Candidates possess good citizenship, and willingness to participate 
      • Candidates are required to attend the entire Boys' State program 
      • Candidates must believe in U.S. Citizenship, and the ideals of God and Country 
      • Candidates must be recommended by the high school principal 
      • Candidates are required to attend the entire Girl's State Program
The local American Legion Post pays fee.
