IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1.    SSCO MEETING:  The School Study Council of Ohio Gifted and Talented Commission presents "Gifted Is Not a Four Letter Word - Using Gifted and Talented Strategies in the Elementary School Classroom".    The program will be held on November 5 from 8:30 until 2:30 at the SSCO Office, Suite 300, 4807 Evanswood Drive, Columbus, OH   43229.  For more information contact Marie Weller,
614-785-1163 (www.mweller@SSCO.org).  The cost for SSCO members is $45.00.  For non-members, the cost is $75.00.

2.    Grant Writing for Teachers:  SSCO will hold two workshops relating to grant writing.  The November 7 workshop is for beginners in the area of grants and the November 8 workshop is aimed at persons who need advanced training in writing grants.  Presenters are Jon Nieberding, assistant director of SSCO and Dr. Thomas Stephens, executive director of SSCO.

3.    Hands-on Science Secrets (K-6):  Steve Spangler, director of the Hands-on Science Institute at Regis University, will present classroom tested strategies guaranteed to get you and your students more enthusiastic about science.  The seminar is designed to meet the practical needs of elementary school teachers who want to make science more exciting, stimulating, and meaningful.
        The presentation will be held on December 11 in Cincinnati (Sharonville) at the Sharonville Convention Center, 11355 Chester Road.

4.    Vocations News:  Below is a list of events offered by the Diocesan Office of Vocations and/or the Pontifical College Josephinum.  These events are for young men wanting to learn about the priesthood or discerning a vocation to priesthood.  If you know of someone who would like to be invited to one of these events or because of his qualities should be invited, call the Vocations Office, 221-5565 to give their name.  Fr. Matt Hoover, Director of Vocations, will then send an invitation and more information to those young men.

5.    Correct date for DEADLINE FOR OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD FOR DIOCESAN HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE:     The last date to submit to your Parish/School Bookkeeper---any changes on the Diocesan Health and Dental Insurance Plans to the Parish/School is November 15, 2002.  Any submitted after that will be held until the November, 2003 Open Enrollment Period.

6.    Congratulations to

Suzanne Howard, 4th grade teacher at St. Matthew School, who was selected as the Sam's Club Teacher of the Year" for the Morse Road Store.  Suzanne was nominated with an essay by a former student.  She received an "official" Sam's Club vest and a $500.00 check that can be spent for school items.
