1. OSU Science and Math Institutes
for Instructional Change - (2004-05 school year): Six credit
hours will be awarded in spring 2005 - twenty sessions across the school year.
Credit and $150.00 of classroom materials are paid through OBR Grant.
The common purpose of the OSU
Institute sequence of courses include:
1) to provide opportunities to
strengthen content knowledge and skills needed for
teaching according to state education standards;
2) to examine several models for
teaching content and process skills;
3) to provide time, materials, and
guidance needed to develop lesson plans for
future
instruction; and
4) to provide opportunities for
teachers to interact, implement, evaluate, and
improve their
lesson plans.

This program is of most interest to
teachers of grades 6-9.
2. Teaching Russian Culture, a
K-12 workshop, Saturday, October 16, 2004 (this is an "away" football game) at
Kuhn Honors and Scholars House, 220 W. 12th Avenue, OSU campus. The
workshop is sponsored by the OSU Slavic Center. Educators will learn new
and exciting techniques on the teaching of Russian culture. Topics will
include:
-Everyday life and culture in Russia
-Holidays
-Russian films and cartoons
-Folk tales
-Russian alphabet and language
-Arts and crafts
-Music and dance
-Food and recipes
The workshop will include 7 contact
hours of work. Participants will receive a certification of
completion. Enrollment is limited. To register, please e-mail

"The Solution to the Problem Might Be in Asking the Right Questions."
Featured topics: use standards, curriculum, and building or district goals
to examine relationships, discover needs, and develop an action plan and staff
development for an entire school year.

5. Pathwise Retooling Session for
Mentors and Administrators: The Diocese of Columbus Department of
Education will offer a program that will re-acquaint teachers who have gone
through Pathwise training with the standardized procedures and vocabulary for
observation and communicating with teachers.

6. Understanding and Treating Teen
Depression: This course will provide an overview of the phenomenon of
teenage depression. The problems of teenage depression presents a
challenge to the mental heath professional in the diagnosis, treatment and
prevention of this disorder. Effective treatment interventions in
dealing with teenage depression will be presented to increase the repertoire of
therapeutic strategies in working with this population.
The training will be offered in
Columbus on October 12, 2004 at the Holiday Inn on the Lane (614-294-4848).
