IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. Teaching American History Grant Applications Sought: Department of Education Secretary Rod Paige has announced the availability of nearly $100 million for Teaching American History grants and is urging local school districts and charter schools to apply for funding. Project activities should enable teachers to develop further expertise in American history, teaching strategies, and other essential elements of teaching to higher standards. Projects should be pursued in partnership with educational, historical, cultural, and other non-profit institutions. The application deadline is July 7, 2003. 2. Free Graduate Credit: There are educational opportunities for teachers who work in the Public School District area and who teach in nonpublic schools. A web site at www.columbus.k12.oh.us allows teachers to register for summer courses and workshops. These classes and workshops are free to nonpublic teachers if they are free to public school teachers. Both graduate credit and CEU credit are available. 3. Ohio's Immigration Heritage: Students at The Ohio State University have collected and written remembrances and celebrations of Ohio's immigrant heritage. This program has two components: a formal stage presentation of immigration stories, and an open, general discussion regarding the heritages of the audience. It is supported by the Ohio Bicentennial Commission and is available free to schools and other organizations throughout Ohio.
4. Balanced Calendar Research Seminar: Investigate the questions surrounding the development, design, PR, implementation, ramifications and impact of a Balanced Calendar Year. This course is available to administrators and teachers and will offer three graduate hours of credit. The course is being offered by the Diocese of Columbus Department of Education and the Ohio Dominican University. The opening session is Tuesday, September 9 from 4:30-7:00 at the Catholic Center, 197 East Gay Street, Columbus. Archdiocese of Chicago: Executive Director for the Francis Xavier Warde
Schools which are based in Chicago. The qualified candidate must be an
innovative thinker and imaginative problem solver. This person must
demonstrate a highly collaborative, effective management approach in staff
development, operations and administration. Prior experience leading
planning processes and implementing the results of the plan is highly desirable.
A minimum of ten years of senior-level management experience preferably in early
childhood education is required. A graduate degree in education and/or

Diocese of Youngstown: A search has begun for a principal for Saint Matthias School, Youngstown, Ohio. Applicants must be practicing Catholics.
