IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. A Message from ODU: In
the fall of 2003, Ohio Dominican University will begin offering a Master of
Education program in curriculum and instruction with a focus on technology.
The university's conceptual framework, Teachers as Reflective Education
Leaders, NCATE standards, and Specialized Professional Associations guide
the curriculum, instruction and assessment for its advanced professional
education program.
The Master of Education Program is
designed to prepare practicing, certified/licensed teachers with advanced
knowledge and skills in content and pedagogy by establishing a culture for
learning and research experiences. Diverse instructional models and
strategies are employed to cultivate knowledge and skill in engaging active
involvement in learning, to foster continuing content area development, and to
promote professional relationships with colleagues and community with a focus on
educational issues.
Review the ODU website at
www.ohiodominican.edu to read more
about admission criteria, cost, course schedule and to printout the application
form.
2. Weekly Religion Ideas:
For Teachers - There is a
good article in the April/May 2003 issue of Religion Teacher's Journal,
"Celebrate the Fifty Days of Easter". As the most important feast day and
season in our Church Year, make plans to celebrate these 50 days. The
Risen Lord who is with us through his Resurrection is the Jesus we teach in
class. This Risen Lord will help us transform our world with the help of
his Spirit and his teachings. Bill Heubsch's article "It's All About
Conversion" reminds us to provide the kind of environment in which faith sharing
takes place and this on-going conversion can happen. What a challenge!
For the Classroom - How do we teach about the Church? A good way to do this for all age students is found in Catechist Magazine for April/May 2003 in the article, "Symbol Talk: the Ark". The symbol of the ark can aid a good discussion about the Church as person, community and institution. Using art, discussion and ritual this kind of lesson can be adapted for the various age levels. As we celebrate the Easter Season, it is good to think and teach about the Church who carries on the mission of the Risen Christ.

4. Parent Enrichment Series:
Queen Bees & Wannabes. . . Mean Girls, Targets and Bystanders. Rosalind
Wiseman, author of the book "Queen Bees & Wannabes," May 13, 2003, 7:30 pm.
Sponsored by Children's Hospital and Bexley City Schools.
The social world of teen and pre-teen
girls is complex and emotionally tumultuous. Cliques, gossip, cattiness
and the overpowering desire to be part of the "popular" social group are
standard social dynamics that govern the world of girls in junior and senior
high school. Until recently, adults have dismissed this experience as
"teen drama" that girls will outgrow. The meanness of girls to one
another, and the power that group status has over them, has a lasting impact on
girl's self-esteem and their ability to establish a strong, independent
identity - a major developmental goal of adolescence.
Program fee is $5 per person.
