4.    Weekly Religion Ideas 2/24/03
        For Teachers:
www.homefaith.com is a fantastic website for teachers of all ages and curriculums.  It is created by the Claretians and focuses in on family spirituality, but has a lot of ideas that can be applied to the classroom.  Just a few of the wonderful resources provided are ideas on celebrating feasts, meditations, book reviews, and projects to send home for the whole family.  Check it out and remember new ideas are always being added.

For Classroom:  "Vinny's New Day"  is a program developed by the Society of St. Columban to promote unity and missions for the world.  The Columbans are a missionary society that has been serving the world since 1918.  Our friend Vinny the Toucan Bird flies around talking to his friends all over the world about how we today can carry out the mission of Jesus.  Vinny also looks at how there are similarities and differences between people from different countries.  Along with the video come developed lesson plans, a cd-rom, stickers, and handouts.  A bonus is that there are unit lessons for the Schools and Sunday lessons for the Parishes.  This program was designed for pre-school and kindergarten, but also appropriate for first and second grade.  The program is available through the Religious Education Office or by contacting Mission Education Office/Columban Fathers, St. Columbans, NE   68056, call 402-291-1920 or e-mail www.st.columban.org/missioned.

Resources:  Usually when we pray we try to shut out the world.  This book instead encourages you to focus on the tangible objects of everyday life.  Kathleen Finley wrote Savoring God:  Praying with All Our Senses, to help us experience God through prayer in an extraordinary way during our daily lives.  A great read and perfect for prayer ideas in and out of the classroom.  Ave Maria Press:  1-800-282-1865, www.avemariapress.com.
