IMPORTANT INFORMATION
1. Legal Topics for Secretaries:
SSCO will offer a workshop for secretaries which features topics such as
distinguishing between law and board policy, student records, truancy,
custody/rights of custodial parents. This workshop will be held on January
28 from 9 until 1 at the SSCO, Suite 300, 4807 Evanswood Drive, Columbus.

2. 2004 Columbus Regional MLK Youth
Oratorical Contest: Sponsored by the Columbus Youth Commission and the
Community Relations Commission
WHEN: Thursday,
February 26, 2004 at 5:30 pm
WHERE: Columbus Police
Headquarters Auditorium (at Marconi & Long)
WHO:
All Students in grades K-12 throughout greater Columbus are eligible
Contest grade divisions: K-3rd - primary division; 4-6 - intermediate
division; 7 & 8 - junior high division; 9-12 - senior high division
Only ONE student per school division may present at the contest. If
more than one student per school per division submits an oration, schools will
be asked to select which student presents an oration at the contest.
Elementary schools: may have one presenter from K-3 and/or one
from 4-5
Middle schools: may have
one presenter from 6th grade and/or one from 7-8
High schools:
must select only one presenter!
K-8 schools:
may have one presenter from K-3, and/or one from 4-6, and/or one from 7-8
Even though the number of orators is limited, we will provide certificates of
achievement to all students who submit orations or who participate in a
pre-contest at their school or youth group.
THEME: The theme of this year's Columbus
Regional (& Statewide) Contest is "Unity through Diversity"
ENTRIES: Deadline for receipt
of entries is midnight Sunday, February 8, 2004
We must have written orations in hand by that deadline, not postmarked by
then!

in each grade division will receive prizes and are eligible to compete in the
Ohio MLK Holiday Commission Statewide MLK Youth
Oratorical Contest in April..

3. Environmental Workshop for
Educators: The Franklin and Delaware Soil and Water Conservation
Districts have partnered once again with Highbanks Metro Park to host a series
of environmental and conservation education workshops filled with
interdisciplinary hands-on activity ideas. Teachers are welcome to join
for any or all of the programs. These materials will enable educators to
help students meet curriculum competencies and gain knowledge, skills, and
commitment needed to make informed decisions about conserving our natural
resources. A certificate of attendance for CEUs or graduate credit is
available.
