1.    Broadway for Kids:  The Broadway in Columbus Education Program, created in 1988, is a patron-supported community outreach arts program that brings students in direct contact with Broadway theater professionals.  This program offers arts education opportunities to local schools and the general public including visits to public and private schools, free public workshops and subsidized theater tickets.  Programming for the 2005-06 season will be available for the following shows:  Hairspray, Little Women, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (and others.)

2.    ODU Masters of Arts in TESOL:  Ohio Dominican University's TESOL Program is based on the international organization TESOL and National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education standards for ESL teachers in grades P-12.
        Ohio Dominican University TESOL program's convenient class schedule is the perfect way for practicing teachers to obtain a marketable Masters degree.

3.    Nike Air to Earth and Windows on Waste Teacher Training:

            Audience:    3-6 grade teachers
            Description:    Developed by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) and funded in part by the Nike Corporation, the lessons in Air to Earth focus on conservation and sustainability:  the idea of conserving resources so that the needs of future generations of people and other species can continue to be met.
    The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling & Litter Prevention's Windows on Waste provides opportunities for teachers to engage students in learning activities about real world environmental issues.  The lessons specifically address solid waste management, including recycling, in the context of energy, resource and land use, and pollution concerns.
   
Both Air to Earth and Windows on Waste offer creative, fun-filled interdisciplinary activities that teach students about the environment while actively engaging them in hands-on, minds-on activities that create an enthusiasm for learning.

Registration:  To register, please call Stacy Law at 614-645-1529.  Please register no later than August 3.  Registration is open to 15 participants on a first come, first served basis.

                    Wendy's, Tim Horton's, and Subway nearby.

                -   Please bring a notebook and pen for note taking

3.    Upper Arlington/Worthington Summer Institute:  On August 10 and 11 the UA/Worthington summer institute will be held at Worthington Kilbourne High School.  More than 50 sessions focusing on strands such as "Integrating Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment," "Promoting Social, Emotional, Intellectual and Physical Wellness," and "Honoring Equity and Diversity" will be offered.  College credit through Bowling Green University will be offered.  CEU credit is also available.

4.    Understanding by Design Conference:  Hilliard City Schools and the Franklin County ESC will offer a two day conference (August 2-4) featuring Jay McTighe who is well-known for his work with "thinking skills" having coordinated statewide efforts to develop instructional strategies, curriculum models, and assessment procedures for improving the quality of student thinking.  He has published numerous articles and books on assessment.
        Please note this conference is intentionally designed for educators familiar with
U by D practices.  For those with a limited background, a pre-conference opportunity "Introduction to Understanding by Design" is available and highly recommended.

5.    Differentiated Instruction Conference for Midwest Educators:  This Conference will come to Columbus from July 8 through July 20.  For registration information, go to www.SDE.com/DI/midwest
        Antioch University (Seattle) and Chapman University credit is available as is CEU credit.

6.    Last Reminder:  The Diocesan LPDC will meet June 9 at St. Anthony School, Columbus.  The next meeting will be in October.
