For the Teacher - As we prepare for the beginning of the Advent season, (Nov. 30th) we have to remember that it is important to reflect on our own faith journey. We bustle around creating Advent wreaths, shopping for the perfect gift and setting up the nativity; that we forget to stop and think about the struggles that we face in our own spirituality. The Religion Teacher's Journal has a wonderful article titled "From Doubt to the Life of the Christmas Star". It focuses on three main areas of the journey: a shaken faith, everyone has doubts, and the winds of faith and reason. Christmas in not about birth but about continual life in Christ.
For the Classroom - This first book is great for the elementary level students; it provides projects for the classroom, parish community and home. It is addressing the family during Advent but can be adapted for any situation.
"Building Family Faith through Advent: Cycle B" - by Lisa Bellecci - St. Romain, brings the Sunday Scripture's of Advent alive in a fresh and fun way for children and families. Liguori Publication: www.liguori.org $2.95 (what a great gift)
"Christ is Coming" - by Teresa Cotter is an excellent resource for teenagers and adults. This book is a treasury of prayers, celebration, reflections, Scripture readings, and projects for the Incarnations seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany. This book helps keep Christ in Christmas. St. Anthony Messenger Press: www.catalog.americancatholic.org
Resources: The united States Conference of Catholic Bishops website is loaded with resources for the Advent season. They provide prayers, projects and explanations around Scripture and tradition for this season of hope. USCCB: www.usccb.org/publishing/advent2002/index.htm
