For the Teacher - In the month of October the Catholic Church addresses the topic of Respect Life.  Through this effort, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has created a program that can be used in parishes and schools.  Begun in 1972, the Respect Life program strives to bring Church teaching on the value and dignity of human life to the attention of the Catholic community and the wider public.  The flier, clip art, liturgy guide, full color posters, and every article in the packet are available in English and Spanish.
For more information, contact the Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities at 202-541-3070.  To order materials, call the Secretariat's Fulfillment Center toll-free at 866-582-0943 (in MD 301-779-0603).  The website address is www.usccb.org/prolife.

For the Classroom -  Pflaum Publishing Group has created excellent resources that deal with the many areas of respect life.  Topics such as death penalty, euthanasia, Ten Commandments, caring for God's creation, morality and drug abuse are covered.  Below are two sets of books that will be helpful in teaching these subjects.
For all levels - Active Learning for Catholic Kids
Each of these theme-related books offers 28 (8-1/2" x 11") pages of reproducible masters to photocopy and distribute to children for lively, hands-on activities, games, and crafts.  Match this mix of themes and modalities to your specific needs.  Plus, used as take-home sheets, these give you a means of regular contact with families, whether coming from school, parish religious education programs, or Liturgy of the Word with Children.
For Teens -  What Catholic Teens Should Know
This exciting new series of booklets - designed  for easy, quick reading - explores contemporary topics of concern to teens everywhere.  Each topic is approached from a Catholic perspective in a style that is to-the-point and conversational.  Attractive, concise, and conversational, they are inexpensive enough to order one for every teen in your diocese, parish, school or group.  They are eight pages each (5-1/2 x 8-1/2).  A set of 10 is $7.95 each.  Call 1-800-543-4383 for reduced pricing when you order any assortment of six or more 10-packs.

For Resource - The USCCB also has a great website that gives resources on the topic of pro-life.  This site allows you to gain a clear understanding of the Church's position in regard to abortion through books and additional links.  www.nccbuscc.org/prolife/

5.    Sympathy is extended to Mary Ann Brown, assistant principal at Saint Catharine School, Columbus, whose father died recently.
