2.    Fifty Ways to Raise Students' Test Scores:  Never before has so much weight been placed on the performance of our students on mandated tests.  Given this highly challenging environment, six educational leaders have pulled together fifty factors that they have found to impact the level and extent of student test performance and measured achievement.
        This two-day training session will offer a broad spectrum of approaches and strategies that will help school and district leaders to conduct a self-diagnosis of their educational system based on the knowledge that today's students have varied needs.  After completing the workshop, participants will be able to return to their schools and maximize student achievement and close the achievement gap between groups.
        The dates of the workshop are November 3-4, 2003 (from 8:30 until 3:30).  The workshop will be held at the ENC building, 1929 Kenny Road, Columbus  (Fee:  $50.00).

3.    For Mentor Teachers:  Classroom Walk-Through - Level 1.  This two day training session helps mentor teachers facilitate conversations about teaching and learning using the walkthrough procedure.  It provides the tools and skills necessary to diagnose classroom proceedings.  It also guides participants in prescribing specified actions and activities that will enhance the quality of student learning and achievement.
        The training session will be facilitated by Bill Davis, Connie Johnston, and Zana Vincent.
        The dates of the session are October 27-28 from 8:30 until 3:30.  (Fee:  $50.00).  Graduate credit or CEU credits available.

4.    Achievement Through Assessment:  The Education Assessment Congress will be held on October 17 and 18 at the Hyatt on Capital Square, Columbus.  It will feature Eric Jensen, Grant Wiggins, and Susan Tave Zelman, State Superintendent of Schools.

5.    -Winter Quarter Fee Waiver requests for Ohio State University are due by October 3.


       -The Diocesan LPDC will meet on October 15 at Saint Anthony School, Columbus.  Teachers are reminded that they all must have an LPDC approved IPDP (Individual Professional Development Plan) on file in their respective schools.  Teachers who received a new license over the spring and summer months should be submitting an IPDP to the LPDC.
        Teachers are reminded that the State Department will not issue a license if the application for the license is not accompanied by an approved IPDP.
        Teachers seeking CEU credit for workshops attended or projects completed should submit evidence of attendance or completion to the LPDC.  (Send to the Diocesan Personnel Office, 197 East Gay Street, Columbus,  OH    43215).
