This month started out with the topic SCRIPTURE. In reviewing the videos and resources that
fall under this general topic, we came to the conclusion we could not do
justice to scripture in only two hours.
April, 2000 Dinner and a Movie reviews are on Introduction
to the Bible. During the next
season of Dinner and a Movie, we will cover the New Testament and the Old
Testament in two additional sessions.
We will also divide each session into older and younger age levels.

The Bible: Whats It All About
Teleketics, 1987 Jim Auer, an enthusiastic
junior high teacher and a small group of students delve into how the Bible
came to be; its oral and written traditions and literary forms. The following questions are covered in two
videos. Where did it come from? Who
wrote it? Did it really happen like
that? What is the Old Testament? What is the New Testament? How does it help me get closer to God? |
Used 10 minutes on the Bible as a library of
books. Good for teaching methodology.
The Media Committee has
reviewed this video. Comments
included that the video is dated and would not be received successfully by
students. The ideas in the video for
methods for teaching the Bible are good and this video could be used for
teacher/catechist suggestions for methodology. Many of the ideas can be adapted to various age groups. COMMENTS: Methods are good |

Exploring Bible Stories
Tabor, 1991 The heart of Christian
remembering is story. How do we
experience, touch, release, and communicate the power of biblical
stories. Fr. Michael Moynahan
explores four different forms: narrative mime, dramatic identification, key
word process, and tableaux vivant.
These forms are easy to implement in catechetical programs for all age
levels. Biblical drama is an
effective way to help children, youth, and adults share faith. |
Supplement available. The Facilitators guide gives some suggested uses for the
program, an overview of the program and detailed program for session 1 on
narrative mime.
COMMENTS: Has possibilities. Good to show at team meeting or leader
meeting |

Ten
Bible People Like Me Paraclete
Press, 1989 The
men and women of the Bible were no different from the men and women of
today. Customs and culture were
different. They did not have some of
the modern conveniences we do but they had the same struggles we do
today. Their relationship with God
was no better, and no worse than ours.
Ten of these people we learn about are: Abraham, Joshua, Deborah,
Gideon, David, Elijah, John the Baptist, Mary and Elizabeth, John Mark, and
Simon Peter. |
