The fundamental task of catechesis is to form disciples of Jesus Christ who will live his teachings and carry on his mission of building the Kingdom of God. The six tasks of catechesis outlined in the National Directory for Catechesis pp. 60-61, and in The Leader's Guide to Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us, pp. 66-68 are to guide all those involved in evangelization and catechesis of persons from preschool to adult levels that they may grow in a faith that is know, celebrated, lived and expressed in prayer. (NDC, p 60) Six Tasks of Catechesis can be found in "Part III - Six Dimensions" of Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us:
Another source that can be used in understanding the practical application of these six tasks of catechesis is found in the articles written for Catechist Magazine in October/November/ December '06 and January/April/May '07 issues. |
